Growing our team, expanding your health possibilities with Dr. Rushit.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Rushit Botadra to the Autonomy team. Bringing a fresh perspective from both New Zealand and Australia, Rushit combines General Practice expertise with a deep passion for lifestyle medicine, prevention, and root-cause care.
Q: Can you give us a quick overview of your career to date?
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland, followed by a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia.
After my internship in Adelaide, I moved to Brisbane to complete GP specialist training. While working in Australia was an incredible learning experience, I always wanted to return home to NZ, which I did in 2021. Since then, I’ve been working as a fellow GP at OneHealth in Remuera.
Q: What sparked your interest in lifestyle medicine?
Seeing chronic disease every day as a GP—and recognising how much of it is preventable—was a huge motivator. I saw firsthand how lifestyle changes dramatically improved outcomes for my clients.
Personally, experiencing the benefits of healthy habits reinforced the power of lifestyle on health. Emerging research on prevention and optimising the pillars of lifestyle inspired me to dive deeper, pursue the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine, and work towards fellowship in this field.
Q: Which areas of medicine do you enjoy most?
The beauty of being a GP is the breadth of medicine—from newborns to older adults, acute injuries to chronic conditions. What I love most is identifying the root cause of illness and helping clients address lifestyle factors that make a real difference.
More clients are now interested in self-managing their health or preventing disease, and it’s incredibly rewarding to empower them with knowledge and tools to do so.
Q: What are your aspirations for healthcare in New Zealand?
We need a mindset shift in healthcare—moving from reactive treatment to prevention-focused, holistic care.
I’d like to see policies and funding that allow healthcare workers to spend more time with clients and provide preventative health checks. The more we emphasise lifestyle and prevention, the more accessible lifestyle medicine will become—and the greater the impact on public health.
Q: How do you spend your spare time?
I love keeping active, whether it’s football, racquet sports, running, gym, or hiking in NZ’s amazing landscapes.
Family time is precious—especially gardening with my daughter, teaching her about the outdoors and growing most of our vegetables at home. It’s hands-on, rewarding, and a reminder of how lifestyle choices shape our health every day.
